Blacks In Cybersecurity was founded late in June of 2018 and later became an officially organized body on January 30, 2019. "What is Blacks In Cybersecurity (BIC) ?" Blacks In Cybersecurity (BIC) is a premier conference series, meetup group, and social organization (community) spearheading the way to solving the disparity between the Black community and Cybersecurity knowledge and resources. "How do I join BIC ?" Blacks In Cybersecurity (BIC) has rolling membership based on interest an enthusiasm versus any particular skill level. Please email us to join the online community, BIC Participation and Event Philosophy “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” The only requirements we ask of anyone who would like to come and be apart of BIC is that they are willing to work hard, learn and grow as well as help others do the same. *You do not need to join a community group (chapter) to be apart of BIC.* BIC prides itself on a laid back, casual and fun atmosphere for real learning and knowledge sharing to promote a genuine affection for the lifelong learning aspect in the Cybersecurity field. BIC facilitates culturally relevant and modern twists on industry staples such as networking , informationals, talks, workshops and more. BIC seeks to indulge members of all skill levels and does not solely serve a strictly professional audience. To help better serve the needs of our community and aid in solving disparity, BIC offers both paid and unpaid services and resources to gain and circulate knowledge. "What is that BIC Symbol and what does it mean?" Browse the Organizational Marking Guide here. "What is the Blacks In Cybersecurity (BIC) community and membership like ?" Blacks In Cybersecurity activity is based around our Headquarters location in the Washington, DC. Metro area (BIC@HQ). BIC has various “ BIC@Location ” groups to develop community and host location based (local) events tailored to the people who regularly attend. BIC Prides itself in being the premier resource in solving the educational disparity of the Cybersecurity field and bringing resources, materials, and infrastructure to our communities. "What is a BIC@Location group ?" In our organization instead of “chapters” BIC has “locations”. The “@Location” notation for BIC has been used to represent locations/groups where events are hosted. This format makes it easier to move around when groups need to identify immediately where the group is located, differentiate between each group, and decide which best work for them. "How does BIC partner and work with other Companies and Organizations?" Currently BIC seeks to partner via: Sponsorship Program Companies or Organizations may donate opportunities or resources to BIC to help solve disparity and encourage diversity. Click here for more information. BIC-Partner Program The purpose of BIC-Partner program is to encourage collaboration within the Black Cybersecurity Community by leveraging exposure and resources to our joint audience . Organizational Collaborations STEM or other Cybersecurity organizations are welcome and encouraged to collaborate with BIC in any way, we ask those inquiring to email the Communications Director . BIC Does not have any "sister organizations" or sub-organizations other than the Ambassador program . "Why does Blacks In Cybersecurity (BIC) use the word "Blacks"? Blacks In Cybersecurity utilizes the term “Blacks” as a term to identify ALL of the Black People of the Global African Diaspora and Africa as a whole.(“Black” in America is different from “Black in Europe” which is different from the many and proud cultures in continental Africa.) In identifying and serving all cultures, groups, languages, and locations of Black people worldwide, BIC strives to project a call to action to solve both local and global disparity of Cybersecurity literacy, education and occupational pipelining. "What are the official Blacks In Cybersecurity (BIC) colors?" Red, Black and Green "What is the official Blacks In Cybersecurity (BIC) slogan(s) / hashtag? "There are many organizations, but there is only one headquarters." “Lit like BIC!” Hashtags #LitLikeBIC
