HOMECOMING 2025: 5 YEARS OF BIC VILLAGE

Welcome to Alaafia State University!

Welcome to Àlàáfíà State University, "Àlàáfíà" means peace, wellness and wholeness. Àlàáfíà State University (ASU) stands as both sanctuary and powerhouse! Since its founding in 1889, the campus has grown around a sacred willow tree known as "The Queen Mother" — a towering, ancient guardian believed to whisper wisdom and glow under moonlight.

ASU’s layout spirals outward from this hallowed center with libraries, tech hubs and gathering spaces built in harmony with the land. The school’s mascot, the Yorùbá Firebird (Phoenix), rises proudly from its roots, symbolizing rebirth, resistance and brilliance echoed in our campus chant:

“Peace and power in our veins, bringing change, breaking chains!”

Tucked within the vibrant city of Lowvale, Àlàáfíà — the 52nd state and the Deep South’s best-kept secret — Àlàáfíà State University stands as both sanctuary and spark. Since its founding in 1889, the campus has grown around a sacred willow tree known as The Queen Mother — a towering, ancient guardian believed to whisper wisdom, glow under moonlight, and, on rare nights, offer spiritual visitors or steaming plates of oxtails and rice to homesick students in need. Rubbing her bark before exams is tradition, but legends speak of moments when she’s granted far more than just good grades. ASU's layout spirals outward from this hallowed center — libraries, tech hubs, and gathering spaces built in harmony with the natural curves of the land and the nearby Òá¹£un River, a lifeline of both culture and history.

Drenched in bold hues of red, black, green, indigo, and gold, ÀSU is our campus home for DEF CON 33!

We are delighted to host you for this year’s HBCU heritage & Black Culture celebration, an event that honors our excellence and resilience.

This year’s theme invites us to reflect on the deep cultural foundations that HBCUs have laid for generations & the rich history of the deep south, while celebrating how our culture continues to shape the future across technology, education and arts.

Through panels, workshops and community activations, we’re embracing the fullness of our heritage while envisioning what’s next.

Whether you’re helping guide our newest "students", sharing your brilliance from the stage or working behind the scenes to keep things flowing, your presence on our campus will make the impact on our community greater. We invite you to bring your full self, as we celebrate all that our culture has been in the DEF CON community for five years of our village event!
